My piece is dedicated to my first son Daniel who was stillborn on 30th April 2008 at 40wks +10days. He was perfect in every way. I’d had a very normal pregnancy. In the last few days Daniel had turned so he was laying back to back. Unfortunately when he turned he caused early rupturing of my waters, as I was in the bath at the time I didn’t notice they’d gone. As a result he took an infection which went undetected. His heart stopped during labour and was born sleeping. We’ve since been blessed with 2 more amazing boys.

My inspiration for my piece came from several things. The first is a necklace I wear everyday…a silver heart with an etched miniature copy of Daniel’s footprint and from a tattoo I have of his footprints. I always loved the poem Footprints In The Sand…so the heart would be textured like sand and I’d use Daniels prints on the sandy heart.
