These cupakes were for a friend that I play soccer with. Her mom passed away a couple of months ago and this weekend she had the family all together for a celebration of life in her mom’s memory.
She requested marble cupcakes with fondant flowers on top. She left the flowers up to me but did say that her mom’s favorite flowers were poppies. I did two dozen with the assorted blossoms and one dozen with the poppies.
I was very happy with how they turned out. I bought a new blossom cutter and mold set that I love. I used it for the yellow, pink and orange flowers as well as the poppies. I used the blossom cutter/plungers from the Wilton Gum Paste Flower Cutter Set to make the blue, white and purple blossoms. The centers of the poppies were done with a Wilton mold. All the flowers were dusted with petal dust to give them some depth. I sprinkled some nonpareils on the cupcakes before adding the flowers for a little something extra.
