On Sunday, we celebrated the christening of my goddaughter, Darcy Eloise Claire and obviously I had to make the cake!
Darcy’s parents were keen to include the top tier of their wedding cake, which they had been keeping safe for eight years ready for this day, so a bit of head scratching was required. I decided to use it to make a large alphabet block on top of the main cake, which was a huge 12" lemon sponge, filled with a delicately flavoured lemon buttercream and zingy lemon curd. In addition to the block, it is decorated with colourful bunting matching the party decorations and topped with an icing replica of Darcy’s ‘Ragtales Darcy Bear’, some floral baby booties, a rattle, ball and a terry cloth blankie.
It was a lovely service and a lovely day with the dearest of friends… :)
Special thanks also need to go out to Nicola at Sweet – Creation Ltd for letting me use her workshop to make this cake – after a pipe burst in my own kitchen 😱 – and for the extra pair of hands to get it done in time… x
