Had a lot of fun designing this cake homage to The Beatles.

I love the graphics from the Yellow Submarine album and so used this as a loose inspiration and a starting point for the main design. I simplified the colour scheme, focusing on pattern and texture which reminded me of the swinging sixties.

The bottom tier is wrapped in an edible ‘wallpaper’ and decorated with a hand painted ‘Yellow Submarine’ using paste colours on gum paste, the middle tier uses the billow technique which I then sprayed in edible varnish to give a high shine. The top cube features the guys themselves, John, Paul, George and Ringo hand cut from modelling chocolate.

Inside we went with a Southern vibe – vanilla and bourbon cake, with cream cheese frosting and crushed pecan praline.
