Sir Humphrey is my entry to the British Sugarcraft Guild International Exhibition in the UK this weekend, where he won the Gold Trophy in his category! It’s my very first competition entry so I’m extremely chuffed to have been awarded.
He is sculpted primarily with fondant and a little modelling chocolate, and then airbrushed. His fan and crumpled circus poster on the floor are made from rice paper, his cane and hanky from gum paste, and his glasses from Isomalt. The board was airbrushed from a handmade template and then distressed and aged.
The inspiration for Sir Humphrey came from an 1888 circus poster – I seem to be drawn to animals in clothing so thought he’d be the perfect subject! Schedule stated that dummies could be used so internally he is set up on a bolted frame with threaded rod, and a polystyrene head and tummy.
I guess now he’ll be my lucky charm!
