Many thanks to Liz (from Time for Tiffin) and her team for inviting me to this inspirational collaboration. I really hope we can raise much needed funds for the RNLI and make a difference.

My piece is a tribute to Grace Darling who along with her father (the Lighthouse Keeper) rowed out to rescue the survivors from the SS Forfarshire when their ship was driven by a storm onto Harcar rocks on 7 September 1838.

If you look closely onto Grace’s skirt I have painted a scene to show the rescue, you can see Grace in her rowing boat braving the stormy sea and in the background is the tragic ship.

The RNLI founded the Grace Darling Museum in September 1938, exactly 100 years after her famous rescue.

The RNLI rescues 23 people on average every day. Its volunteer lifeboat crews are ready to respond to shouts in all weathers and at all times of the day and night. Please visit our page to read more about their amazing work.
