The original inspirations for my “Midnight Monet” cake were inlaid designs found in jewelry created with gemstones and different types of metals. As I was gathering pictures, I also came across painted designs using swirls of color accented with silver. I started seeing swirls everywhere, from fashion inspiration to embellished fabric and artwork, I knew I had found the perfect inspiration for my piece! I still loved the inlaid technique and decided to try to combine both for the background base of my cake. I used spiral molds and cut each piece to fit into the next, creating an inlaid fondant design. I built upon the base design by adding colored spirals encrusted with hundreds of tiny silver seed pearls. Horizontal and vertical frilled ruffles are also accented with seed pearls to create additional layers of texture and movement. Various sizes of tiers add another Avant Garde element to the unique shape of the cake.
A huge thank you to Rebekah Wilbur, ACD and Satin Ice for their work and support of such a wonderful collection! View all the pieces at https://www.facebook.com/Avant-Garde-Cake-427416054115094/
