This is my horse head sculptured cake that I did for my entry into Cake International for the carved cake category. I learnt a lot from this cake and the whole competition experience too. I learnt that a structure for a cake is very important and that a structure for a cake that is travelling 9 hours in a car and ferry is even more so!! He got damaged along the way and the icing that was dry leaving home, was wet and sticky after the journey so the stability that the icing gave to the support of the cake was no longer there, so if I’m brave enough to enter again I will definitely take that into account! I also learnt that the cakey friends and family I have made are a wonderful group of people, supportive and such fun to hang out with. (I’m still trying to catch up after a fabulous weekend of cakes, award night and get togethers!) I also learnt that it was all ~SO worth the “hassle”. I was absolutely shocked to get a Gold for my entry, not only because it was damaged but also because it was my first time entering in an International show. ;)
