“Flower Skull”
This piece is about life after death. The ganache symbolizes the soil where lies the skull (simple and nude) and from them life arises. The flowers and stems spring up over and around the skull. And the feathers have the meaning of taking flight towards heaven of the christian religion. “Flower Skull” has this bright colouring because the mexican Day of the Dead is a lively celebration of the deceased relatives.

Dia de los Muertos tradition honored by Cake Decorators

The Sugar Skull Bakers – a group collaboration of cookie, sugar, cake decorators, and artists from around the world. For its third year the group brings its tradition to life with a beautifully curated collection of sweets honoring the 3500 year old Mexican holiday – Dia de los Muertos, The Day of the Dead.

Our group, founded in 2013, by cake artist Berenice “Berry” Rabago, of Berry’s Sweet Studio and graphic artist Yuki Navarro, in Mexico City, MX. Each member was invited to join based on their admiration for calacas and calaveras (skeletons and skulls).

“This is my idea just to have a lot of bakers make a Dia de los muertos cake to share on 1st of November, DAY OF THE DEAD!” It’s just a fun page … no hurry, no worries just SKULLS. No blood, no gore. It’s to remember and to celebrate our beloved.” Berry Rabago
