Yes us cake makers do balls up from time to time and this was one of those occasions. i got the date mixed up. SHe wanted it for the thursday and i had somehow wrote it in my diary as friday!!
Refusing to let the customer down (thank god she was so lovely about it) i said i cant do the full 3d one but can do a 2d version and with only 4 hours to do it in i came up with this.
I layered the fondant and then sculpted it a little then shaded in the dark areas and highlighted where the light would hit the car.
Unfortunately i had to cheat cause of lack of drying time etc and i printed off the alloys and windscreen but i still went over those with shading and highlights to incorporate them into the cake.
I used LED balloon lights inserted into straws in the cake to give it an extra effect.
The result? my customer was so chuffed she even gave me a tip! my first ever cakey tip.
moral of the story?.. double check your booking dates lol
