Olivia loves traditional Indian fashion and has a wonderful collection of sarees … As a surprise, her Mum asked me to design something with an Indian theme after seeing my EIF collab piece earlier this year … The spec was something purple, something with a twist, and it HAD to be red velvet :)
And so here it was … I used a stencil to map out the basic pattern by stippling a very thin mix of Superwhite and water over it, then hand painted everything with the colour details (and it felt like it was never-ending !) The fabric was very thinly rolled fondant and the paisley was made using a tear drop plunger, embossed with the strawberry patchwork cutter, then painted silver. The brooch was layers of snowflakes (I’m not sure if it was one of Raewyn’s tutorials from way back ….) with a fondant ‘stone’ .
Anyway, hope you like it – Thanks for looking !
