I created this cake with a story in my mind of a mermaid who comes to the surface and comes face to face with a little fairy for the first time. I tried to recreate the kind of surprised fascinated expression I imagined her to have when meeting this little flying creature.

Modelling faces is something I want to practice and get better at so I was really happy with how the mermaid turned out. The fairy was a bit trickier because she was so little.

I used molds for the shells, but modelled everything else by hand. I loved making this cake soooo much! It was fun being able to make something that was just for me and I could make it look however I liked.

This cake came first in its category at the Christchurch Cake and Craft Show :-)
