I was asked to make a “Roast Chicken Dinner” for a friend’s daughter’s 40th birthday. She said it summed her up and was chuffed as punch when the ‘Chicken (who has apparently eaten FAR too much corn!) was produced. The flowery tray under the ’wooden’ board was an afterthought following the birthday girl’s husband having a sudden admission into an Algarve hospital and was ribbed a good deal about the pretty bedding (he is a big booming rugby player you see …).

Anyway, I always love a bit of cake fun and this was most definitely that.

The ‘wood’ and the flowery ‘tray’ are both cake boards, covered in fondant and hand painted.

Not featured in the photographs was a chicken’s head with a label round its neck with a birthday greeting plus a couple of chicken feet! All the decorations hand modelled with sugarpaste.
