This “Beach” themed cake is one that was a while in the planning process. The lighthouse itself was made using modeling chocolate around a hollow plastic cylinder. All of the detailing on the lighthouse is also modeling chocolate. The life buoy ring, beach ball, and the large boulder up against the lighthouse were all hand formed using fondant. The sea shells are molded fondant and were dusted with petal dust. On the top tier, I used fondant ruffles in blue ombre. The “white caps” were painted onto the tops of the waves (ruffles) with white icing color. Pictured as the center of attention on the bottom tier and telling us the story of summer, is a little boy playing on the beach with his beach ball. The silhouette is cut from black fondant using an exacto knife.
