Here’s my piece for the Sugar Myths & Fantasies Cake Collaboration: a Fairy Cabin-In-The-Woods! It’s a little fairy vacation home, all ready for fairy relaxation and set for tea-time.
I am so honored to be counted amongst these amazing sugar artists!
I wanted to create an organic piece, something that looked like little forest fairies might like to live in.
My cake is covered in ChocoPan dark modeling chocolate and I did all the detailing using my #SugarShapers from Innovative Sugarworks. I used aluminum armature to form the branches and covered them with modeling chocolate as well.
The wood “aging” and “moss” is made by painting on layers of diluted royal icing and using my hands to pat dried and crumbled green royal icing on top of the sticky RI. The wooden “ladder” and “table & stools” are also made with modeling chocolate and the tea set (modeled after a set that my Mee-Maw, who passed away last week, gave me) is made of gumpaste and hand-painted with roses. The “patio umbrella/fairy flower” is made using wired yellow, blue and purple gelatin petals and wrapped around the branch with a green modeling chocolate vine.
Thanks for looking!
