I have two very special women in my life – my mum who I affectionately call Mamma D and my Aunty Angie, both raised me and are still very much in my life (they are both in the picture above amongst the other mums in our extended family). For Mothers Day I honoured them both with a Vegan, Gluten Free Chocolate cake trophy for Worlds Best Mum. This was a large, heavy monster supported only by 5 wooden dowels! If I was to make this again, I would have used metal for the base. It was the most frightening drive to deliver this to our dinner as I was sure it was going to snap in two. So I took proof of life photos pre delivery just in case it collapsed on me and I could show everyone how it should have looked – but a cake angel was watching over me and it made it in one total piece, praise be!!!! The most enjoyable part of making this creation was the sugar Frangipanis and airbrushing them, I made so many I ended up with multiple colours up my nose and in my mouth despite wearing a surgical mask. Loved how they turned out though.
