My entry into Cake International and I won Gold – this is why I have been quiet for the past few weeks.
I am absolutely chuffed to nuts as the standard was so very high.
I have tried out a few new techniques with this cake (probably not the best thing to do on a competition one!)
The sharp edges – getting them to look the same took a bit of huffin and puffing!
The scallop panels – my maths is not good at the best of times and the amount of times I measured round the cake to divide it up etc did my head in. Then of course getting the panels the same width as I knew the judges would be looking closer at them!
I made over 750 flowers – I may not of used them all but I had some rejects and quite a few breakages whilst trying to attach to the cake!
The tiny non pareills – I will probably be finding them for months as they were going everywhere and took forever trying to place them so neatly into the centre of the larger flowers.
The flower ball did take some time, placing the flowers in certain positions etc was nerve wrecking as the ball was only stuck on with sugarpaste so I couldn’t push too hard in case it came off!
I painted the ‘wood effect’ panels to give it a rustic/vintage look and was so chuffed when one of the Judges said that they all loved it ( it was the icing on the cake -her exact words!)
Hope you all like it as much as me, thank you for looking
