Pappagalli Pappagalli Pappagalli

My cake is called Pappagalli (Parrots in Italian) and symbolizes the transformation of a city or town from the monotony of regular life, into the buzz, colour,
exuberance and fun of Carnival. People can also be
transformed into just about anything they want to be with
costume and disguise.
For my sugar piece for the Sugar carnival collaboration, I have depicted the monotony of regular life
by using monochromatic tones and sugar roses on the bottom
tier. The handpainted Venetian ‘Doges Palace’ design
encircling the tier sets the scene, and the black and white
‘Magpie’ tail on the perched parrot, suggests a very normal and
common bird is actually hiding underneath the glamour and
masquarade of a Parrot costume. The flowers also flow from shades of grey to bursts of bold colour and wafer paper feathers.
