A friend ordered a cake from me with simple yet definite instructions: Butterflies on an all-white cake. Since we were doing all white, I wanted the butterflies to be super-realistic and very vibrant.

This is a 6-inch vegan devil’s food cake with a raspberry buttercream filling. The butterflies are realistic butterfly images printed on wafer paper. It worked great because I was able to easily bend the wafer paper to make it look like the butterflies were actually flying and in a natural position. Fondant roses were made using 5-petal cutters.
