Welcome Winter!! Today, my husband and I are celebrating 16 years of marriage. I thought it would be fitting to share the anniversary cake I made for my parents on Wednesday when they celebrated 45 YEARS of marriage – it’s anniversaries everywhere!
I designed this all buttercream Aspen anniversary cake to bring back memories of our favorite vacation spot and where they honeymooned. A sweet family cabin where they later would bring us for vacations with a ravine in back filled with aspen trees – one with their initials carved into the bark. A place we spent hours sitting by the brook, having leaf and duck races, learning names of wildflowers with my grandma, searching for quartz rocks and fool’s gold, learning to play card games, roasting marshmallows (and watching my mom burn hers purposefully because that’s the way she likes them!) A little piece of heaven on earth filled with wonderful memories!
I mottled the gray buttercream to kind of mimic the snowy shadows in the winter, piped and carved the knots and nooks into the buttercream aspens and painted the details (including their initials) with gel food colors. Topped with a gumpaste flower and red berries to finish the wintry feel. I hope you enjoy – Aspen Love all around! <3 Shannon
