Dia de los Muertos or the “Day of the Dead”
This year I am honoured to be part of this amazing collaboration called SUGAR SKULL Bakers where Bakers and Cake artists from around the world create a piece in ‘skull art’ for Dia de los Muertos or the “Day of the Dead”.
Dia de los Muertos or the “Day of the Dead” is a Mexican festival honouring the dead, both for humans and animals.
My piece is “Maya” – inspired by Moko (Sacred Maori Body Carving) and also representing a balance of everything.
My piece is a half face meaning a balance. We are all both dead and alive at the same time, both male and female, strong and weak, brave and timid. Beauty is not only what is on the outside but what is on the inside. The pink flower represents an awakened consciousness
