Mona contacted me wanting a cake to celebrate her Birthday, but also reflecting the theme of breaking free. She had recently resigned from her busy city job and was on a year’s garden leave. She described the sense of freedom she was experiencing and told me she was going to use some of the time to go travelling. Mona left the design of the cake entirely up to me, so I ran with the concept of her having the world at her feet, the world as her oyster, and her feeling of being on top of the world, on cloud nine and as free as a bird with the wind in her hair! This piece was entirely edible. A 6.25" spherical vanilla sponge sat on top of a 6" vanilla sponge, and both were layered and covered with salted caramel buttercream. The model of Mona was sculpted from sugarpaste. Happy Birthday Mona!
