Ok so when I was asked to make this cake the first thing that popped into my head was “wait, a black wedding cake? really?”…the second was “oh cool! ok I like this”…and the last thing was “oh crap I’ve never covered a large cake in black fondant!! How will I do this!?”
This cake was actually a surprise for the lovely brides, by one of their mothers. It was the first time I have never actually met with the couple getting hitched, so it was a bit crazy for me and actually kind of nerve-racking. I usually draw inspiration from the couple after getting a feel for their personalities…not sure if that is how everyone does it haha…but for me it works.
Also, black fondant is scary. I know a lot of you gave me pointers and tried to help me out but honestly nothing could prepare me for how unforgiving it is. I literally had to cover, recover, then ended up double covering…holy fondant batman! I was so nervous it was going to look like a stack of tires. In the end though I really enjoyed the simplicity of it. There wasn’t too much going on but it still made a “statement” in my eyes.
Hope you all enjoy!
