This is the first time I have been really Ill when a cake was due. I suddenly got struck down with the Norovirus the day I was meant to be baking and making the majority of this cake. In between being sick I was ringing round some cake friends asking if they could help me out. My mate Heather from the Wonkey Cake Co. baked the cakes for me and my friend Lisa Mellum Cake Creations made some of the toppers to help me out including the cute flip flops bucket and spade and crab and pet tortoise they had requested. My husband collected the cakes and Lisa risked her health to drop off he toppers. When I was through the worst after a safe period I had one evening to do the rest including filling, covering, stacking, making 3 figures, beach huts, seagull, sea, dolphin shells and starfish luckily I had already made the deck chairs. I was up till 5 am after having 2 virtually sleepless nights feeling ill, I was a state but I got it done! Admittedly with a few wrinkles and flaws but better that than no cake! I forgot the blokes ears but I think you can allow me that. They however didn’t notice and were really pleased but I had the added worry as they were transporting it to Devon from Dorset sat on the passenger seat next to their little daughter as the car was stuffed already. They reported that it arrived in one piece except that the mans head had fallen off but was quickly stuck back on. I never want the stress of going through this again but I guess it had to happen one day as I work for myself I am just so grateful to have such lovely cake friends.
