A customer wanted this little cake for her fiancé. Couldn’t get the fondant to a midnight blue color so ended up painting with a brush using airbrush color (don’t have an airbrush yet). I deliberately used a coarse brush and pulled the paint right around the circumference of the cake to give a bit of texture and movement.
Sometimes you go to bed with a perfect cake and find problems the next morning. I awoke to find the fondant on the bottom tier had sagged and rippled. I think the paint had caused the fondant to soften too much and stretch.
I put the stars over the worst part and strangely with the brush strokes you couldn’t quite tell if it was meant to be that way (of course I could (and you can too) and I was freaking out!).The customer though, couldn’t see it she said, and was overjoyed with her cake. Happyish ending :)
