This off piste ski slope/mountain was carved from 7 round vanilla sponges (10", 9", 2×8″, 2×6″ and a pudding bowl!) stacked and layered with vanilla buttercream, and it stood 16" tall. It was roughly covered with sugarpaste which I then dragged downwards slightly to create snow drifts and little cliffs for the trees. The chalet topper was also carved from vanilla sponge and was then clad with sugarpaste panels for the walls and roof – it was just 2.5" square so quite fiddly! The skier was also sculpted from sugarpaste. I could have made life a lot easier for myself if I had depicted him with straight legs and static arms, but oh no, I always have to make life hard for myself, don’t I?! Made for a keen off piste skier to celebrate his 70th Birthday. He always wears red on the slopes with a navy blue hat.
