Wide expressive eyes that emote ‘Navrasas’ with élan and a smile that spreads its warmth to the recipient’s heart were among the most difficult challenges Cake Canvas had to face in our short existence. This cake was cajoled into existence by a proud romantic who wanted to surprise his award winner wife on her birthday.

He called two days prior to the event and asked me to make a surprise birthday cake for his wife who happens to be a very dear friend. He knew I wouldn’t be able to say no – The arm twister !! He wanted a caricature of his lovely wife to adorn the cake; plus it had to show the much deserved Filmfare award for best actress in hand. He may never admit it, but his determination to add to the twinkle in her eyes was so sweet. I took up the challenge – It is hard to say no to such unbridled enthusiasm. It took us the whole of two days of shaping, carving, baking, sheeting… to finish the cake in time for the award ceremony where it was cut by a much delighted birthday girl.

The night did not end there though, Later that night, we dropped her to where her other half was waiting for her casually and led her arm in arm to a private space at the hotel to open its doors where few of her close friends had gathered to wish her a Happy birthday.
