This cake was based on the old Cicely Mary Barker Flower Faeries books.
I worked on a colour palette of sage green, mauve and gold. Her dress is trimmed in metallic gold and I put a little petal hat on her head.
I had real problems doing the wings….every time I used fondant or sugar paste they broke….tried royal icing, it broke, then I hit on the idea of using wafer paper.
I cut the shapes I wanted, used edible ink pens and used metallic gold to highlight them and fixed them to the body with a little corn syrup. It worked perfectly.
One of the prettiest girls cakes I have ever made.
So pretty, the wings are perfect! :-)
