Modelling chocolate

I was thinking of having a go at making modelling chocolate to make a figure but as I have never worked with it before I amnit sure how to colour it. I have seen some amazing work in modelling chocolate. Can you use your existing food colours?

Depending on what recipe you use. I tend to use jessicakes recipe because it uses the Wilton candy melts and then my modeling chocolate is already colored for me.
But I have also used the white Wilton can’t melts and added my americolor gels to it. One time I added the color to the corn syrup and one time I added it to the melted chocolate before adding the corn syrup. Both worked. I hope this helps a little bit.

Yes, its easier to add the colour to the chocolate whilst its melted rather than trying to knead it in.
You cannot knead modelling chocolate too much as it melts easily. Im in england and I use sugarflair paste colours.
I make small amounts of each colour I need, but you can make large amounts as the modelling chocolate can last up to a year. The recipe I use is from wicked goodies.net, its great!
