I’m in the process of making cake pops and cupcakes for my grandson who is turning 1. When it came to the eyes, I started rolling little balls of fondant, but it was difficult to make them all the same size besides being a very time consuming task when you have too many to make. So, I came up with the following solution.
1. Mix a little Tylose into your fondant, roll it into a snake shape and insert into your pearl silicone mold.
2. Once removed from your mold, allow it to set for a few minutes, and then cut each pearl individually – within minutes you have many eyes with a flat back perfect to adhere to a cake pop or cupcake topper. For Big Bird, I cut two at a time.
3. To decorate, simply use your color gels, or edible pencils .
You now have fast eyes ready to decorate your goodies! I hope this idea helps you – it certainly saved me a lot of time trying to roll each eye and never getting it exactly the same size.
