This is a quick tutorial for simple swags as seen on my Modern Steampunk Hat cake that was featured in Cake Masters magazine (November issue)…
Not sure if anyone else has ever done swags this way before as I have not seen it done quite the same. There are many ways to do the same thing and some may work better for others. I’ve tried a few methods including the ever popular “skewer” method and always have difficulty and have to redo them several times until I’m happy. This method works the first time every time for me so has proven to be the best method and gives even, consistent folds. Hoping this is helpful to others out there! =D
Materials required:
Circle cutter (size needed depends on how long you want your swags)
Pasta wheel (to cut fondant)
Fondant or 50/50 gumpaste/fondant mix
Edible glue or water
Brush to apply glue
