What inspires cake?

I am sure we all see and collect things that inspire our cake.
This photo was sent by a lovely bride. A photo I found very cool and intriguing.
I don’t have the original source of this.

We have never met as she was returning home to NZ from Australia to marry, but emails and a phone conversation confirmed a brief of white, cream, a hint of apricot and no green.
Unusual for today, the cake of choice was fruit as she describes herself as a “fruit cake fiend”.
A decadent chocolate kitchen cake with raspberry IMB filling and ganache icing was provided as an alternative option.
I love to make a connection with the tradition of fruit cake and always Tx or email the bride when these cakes are being mixed for the bake, (5 or 6 weeks prior to cutting) it is said to be good luck for the bride to have a stir. I am not sure how they explain their actions but I am always rewarded for this effort with a long distance stir.

My reward for creating edible art "Oh My Goodness…the cakes were perfect!!

very pretty design! for me inspiration comes from something beyond what I can understand. I can’t tell it when to come or how to proceed, or even to finish a project once it’s been started (so so many half finished things lying around)…I’m just trying my best to be patient enough to listen to it. The best cakes I’ve made are where I’ve managed that most… I guess you could say I’m still perfecting the art ;)

Lovely design, and interesting how and where inspiration comes from. I’m still trying to let go of the logical, practical brain and hope one day that the creative side will kick in more! I love the idea of the long distance stirring x
