The New Formula for Top15

Is it such a bad thing not to reach the Top 15? Afterall there is so many brilliantly talented decoraters on this site. When I first signed up here I was really happy to just get a comment. It takes time for people to find you here and I think the way to get to know everyone is to comment on peoples cakes, I’ve noticed alot of members only post cakes but don’t bother to look at anyone else’s work . But on the other hand there are alot of fantastic dedicated people on this site that go out of there way to make everyone welcome, you know who you are, they made me feel very welcome here and have given me so much encouragement.
Why not just be patient and I’m sure we will get used to the new system. :-) Xxxx

Thank you so much Kath for your support. I really try to help in anyway that I can, but this is not my field I truly don’t know how it works. What I really, really like to do (and I’m not saying that I don’t like getting in to the Top), is look at some (a few) cakes and share some cake love…Lol xxx

I really can’t reveal how the new formula works…not because I don’t want, but because there were attempts to game the system every day. I know that you are not here because of Daily Top 15, but because you love cake decorating. I told you that before and I can repeat it once again – we are glad that we have you here – you are one of the core members of CakesDecor!

I still remember getting a huge cake hug from you way back when I joined and you have shared cake love with everyone here, consistantly. Sending you a massive cake hug now, you had better brace yourself it might bowl you over, haha. I’m not going anywhere, I love this place! xxxx

Kath I’m with you! I appreciate your frustration Ana but would like to reiterate how valuable you are here. When I first started posting (I’m embarrassed now that I even posted some of them!) it was always you who left a comment, or Goreti <3 Quite often not another soul. It made me feel so wonderful! Lol. I’ve improved enough to sometimes make top 15 which has felt like a huge achievement but it’s not the be all and end all. The supportive people I’ve met here are teaching me every single day. I’m also really shocked that anyone would try and game the system! Wow!!!!

I have been decorating w/ buttercream since 1980! and feel a little behind the times, but as some commented, I feel welcomed just by the few comments I get.. it does excite me to death to think some of the amazing cake artists would take the time to send those words of encouragement to me. Now, I see cake artists really starting to use buttercream art again, and is wonderful news.. So I appreciate and thank all who support us, who have never taken an art class, and self-taught themselves, like I have~ PS. I enjoy the camaraderie over a top placement.. but would be totally beside myself, if I did receive anything of this magnitude!

Here’s my 2-cents regarding this:
When I first started here in Sep 2012, no one noticed my cakes (except Ana & Goreti of course :-), had no followers!!! My cakes started improving (because I tried learning from everyone and I got a lot of help from some members here), some other decorators started noticing and I started getting followers. I do check every single cake that gets posted and not just those from those I follow; and I do leave comments to those cakes I like, and fave when I love!! Met wonderful people here and I am happy to say they became cakey friends… People started following me not too long ago as a matter of fact!! So now, I do honestly feel, that with the new formula, those who have a lot of followers (and I have a lot less than Ana) are being penalized for having those followers. I totally understand Michal that the formula is secret but that’s what it looks like. And with the new system of receiving Digests (not that I wait for those because I check anyway), some of your followers don’t know that you’ve posted a cake until much later sometimes. So my question is, why have the followers, if I am being penalized for that, I’d rather not have them and rely on those who check!!! Many don’t post anything anyway!!! Cakes Decor was my second home!! And I totally agree with Nancy about the camaraderie, I love everyone here but if I am going to be penalized because members liked my cakes and were kind enough to start following me, then I need to do something about it!! Michal, that’s what it looks like, unless you can tell me it’s not without revealing your secret… And the reason why I am saying this is because I noticed it with those who have high number of followers (Nadia Chokolate, Rosie Cake Diva, Ana Remigio, Goreti…. and the list is long). And you know how much I love being here and care about the site :-)

However it works going to keep trying lol going to keep posting my cakes until one makes it even if people end up commenting on my cakes just to tell me to stop!! Lol thanks for the great site always appreciate the coments I receive it is a buzz and always comment on others work I love too.

I follow some and also have some followers not as many as a lot of people on here but for me personally that doesn’t matter, I love when people take the time to leave a comment about my work and I am sure that when I do the same it is also appreciated. As for getting into the top 15 or 3 or even being lucky enough to be editors choice I have no idea how that works!
I’ve been lucky enough to have been all 3 at some point but if you look at how many people liked,looked or commented on my cake you will see that there are cakes out there with more of all 3 of the above but don’t get picked, so yes Ana I’m with you I’ve no idea how the new site totally works still navigating my way around it some things I love and other things not so much but that is only because I’m still learning the site!
As for the voting well I never did understand that in the first place
I will be staying commenting on cakes as well as adding cakes and if I get picked then that’s great if not there is always the next cake I love this site and everyone on it as it challenges me to do better and that’s got to be a good thing
