I made this rainbow themed cake for my daughter’s 9th birthday. I also made a rainbow that stood on it’s own in front of the purple middle tier, it was all a rush while taking photo’s as I was putting up the offset chevrons on the cake when the guests were arriving!! so I forgot the rainbow for the photos :(
This cake was so stunning in person, seeing those colours gradually go through the rainbow & being able to walk around the cake & see a different set of colours each side was awesome! Clearly these techniques are not my own, they are from Jessica Harris’ craftsy class. I remember while watching her class she said you could do anything with these ruffles, any colour combo – I knew straight away that I wanted to do a rainbow version. It was my husbands idea to do the graduating colour & I’m so glad I listened to him, I don’t think this would have looked half as good just doing the six rainbow colours repeated.
The ruffles & offset chevron are all fondant with tylose not modelling chocolate like Jessica uses.
My daughter loved her cake & for me, it was the first cake that I actually did not want to cut into! We ate the top two tiers first & then I grudgingly let me daughter ‘hack’ into the bottom tier ;) it’s what it’s all about huh!
Thanks for looking,
