Bi-color Rose cake

This is the first cake I’m posting to any forum ever. Always been intimidated by the awesome cakes that others post. Finally I have a cake that I think it might be OK to post here. So here goes nothing…

I’d seen a pic of a rose which had the deepest red petals but were white on the outside. Wanted to make them for ever and finally decided to make it for my sis-in-law’s birthday cake. The advantage of baking for the family – you can try new stuff.

Kept the whole canvas of the cake simple so that the bicolor rose and buds would stand out. Hope I’ve succeeded.

Amazing roses! I would love to know how you did them – did you layer white & red gumpaste and then cut out the petals? how cool is that!:!

Chris

Thanks so much Chris. That’s exactly how I did it. Rolled the white flowerpaste out a wee bit thick as I didn’t want the red to show through and make it look pink. Then placed a thinly rolled layer of red on it. Rolled then together a bit too- to ensure they fuse and then cut out the petals.
