This cake was for a friend’s mom who was turning 70. It was a last minute cake and she wasn’t sure what kind of cake she wanted, so after asking a few questions I found out that her mom loved Orchids, and I knew exactly what I wanted to try. I covered my cake board in fondant and then created the cobblestone effect by pressing down a skewer and adding the stones between each impression, then I hand painted the stones. This cake was a challenge and nothing was going right with my fondant flowers, but in the end it came together great, and I heard back that some people thought it was an actual flower at first sight. It was vanilla cake with a strawberry buttercream and fresh strawberry slices in between the layers.
