Happy First Birthday Madeline Rose! This Victorian style first birthday cake was modeled after the birth announcement the parents had used for their daughter when she was born. To achieve the sponged/watercolor effect from the invitation I rubbed dry petal dust on the fondant in three different colors and blended them together with a paper towel. The butterflies, 1, and roses are all handmade from gumpaste. Mom wanted to add roses because her daughter’s middle name is rose. The “lace” pattern around the base tier was created using a painting stencil, piped royal icing and pink sugar pearls. The butterflies and the number one are also dusted with pearl luster dust. What a fun change of pace for a little girl’s birthday! Different, but Oh So GIRLY! I matching jumbo cupcake was the baby’s “smash” cake.
