I absolutely loved making this cake, it was so delicate and used a lot of skills I though I’d lost.
The spec was afternoon tea, chintz and Cath Kidston for a wedding cake. The bride and groom wanted a WOW cake but not too fussy, but wanted to incorporate Cath Kidston type designs with the teapot and Battenburg (something the groom had seen and wanted on the cake!).
The first tier is a 12" cake hand painted with roses in pinks. The second tier is 10", decorated with bunting – some hand painted with small rose details. The third tier is 8" decorated in a pale green with polka dots. The fourth tier is a 6" square decorated to look like a Battenburg cake and the teapot is also 6". This has a handpainted floral design and gold gilt. The whole cake stood at about 30" tall and I’m thrilled the bride & groom loved it.
