I made this cake this past weekend as a groom’s cake for a wedding in Chattanooga, TN. I have made a couple of guitar cakes, but this was my first banjo. My goal for this cake was to use real strings since I had been so unhappy with extruded strings in the past.
The neck is made of wood, and there is a small block of wood at the top and bottom of the banjo to secure the neck and strings. See the last picture in this series for a shot of the armature we built and used.

This is FABULOUS – I love the idea of using wood – it makes it so much more real! :))))
