When this cake was comissioned I thought long and hard about the logistics of it. I have never really been able to paint so this was a real challenge for me with no room for error painting directly onto the fondant.
I made and dried panels, as this cake was a triple barelled banana cake standing at a height of 30 cm, conventional fondant icing methods were not so favourable. My first attempt at replicating the design was discarded as I was not happy with it. The final Tattoo took me 4 hours, which incidently is the length of time it took for the actual Tattooist.
The design itself came from the Birthday Boy’s tattoo, as seen in the last photograph, that he got as part of his birthday present representing both his Maori heritage and his English Heritage.
