Cake designed for Half Baked’s 4th of July feature. Vertical ruffled stripes and ruffle field of blue offset by “americana” style piece with star center. Cake was red velvet with cream cheese swiss meringue buttercream.

Thank you, ladies! Yes, whitecrafty, it was SO SO SO much work. In the end, we used it to celebrate my Mom’s 50th birthday (on Flag Day) and she was worth the horribly cramped fingers, sore fingers and strained eyes.

How did you manage to keep the ruffles so cornstarch/icing sugar free? Or did you clean up at the end with something?
