Homeless

Homeless

My entry for Cake International recently. It’s rare I enter, and this is my fifth competitive entry since my first in 2012. I like to challenge myself as I believe this should be the aim when entering competitive work, as you are challenging yourself and it’s inspiring in doing so.
I was given permission by Lee Jeffries, the photographer who has brought out a book on his incredible portraiture on homeless people. He actually went to live with them, get to know them and was inspired by these people.
This is a subject very close to my heart and is what motivated me to paint this man with those haunting eyes, that are windows into his very soul.
I was absolutely delighted to receive a SILVER Award and got a beautiful judging feedback.
All brush painted onto a pastillage plaque, using Saracino colours and cocoa butter

You must never limit your challenges, instead you must challenge your limits
