My cake is inspired by two heritage sites in Sri Lanka. The golden Buddha is inspired by the world heritage site, Dambulla cave temple also known as Golden Temple of Dambulla. Dambulla is the largest and best-preserved cave temple in Sri Lanka which contains paintings and statues related to Gautama Buddha and his life.
The painting of the hand is inspired by the colourful paintings on the rocks of Sigiriya rock fortress near the town Dambulla. The whole face of the hill appears to have been a gigantic picture gallery. There are references in the graffiti to 500 ladies in these paintings. However, most have been lost forever.
