I chose this design because one of the Estonian traditions is to bring straw into the house which in old times became a playground for the children. These days the straw is made into ornamental objects like the pig in my design. The knitted lady is more modern and found on many of the christmas markets including a wide variety of gingerbreads. The bread she is holding is called Kringle a traditional cinnamon bread. And then the cinnamon sticks and star anise as they like to drink glögi (mulled wine).
