The inspiration for my design came from a haute couture dress designed by John GalIiano for Dior in 2010. I fell in love with the burnt yellow and intense red of the print, which immediately inspired me to create cymbidium sugar orchids in yellow to represent the exotic look as well as the movement of the fabric. I also seized on the model’s hairdo in order to give my piece more movement. The other techniques I used are aged wood and eroded stones, which contrast beautifully with the moves of the sugar flowers.
