For my 2017 Sugar Skull Bakers piece, I chose to do a combined creation with Anna of Sassy Cakes and Cupcakes. We called it Soul Sisters because although we are a gazillion miles away from one another, Anna and I have a friendship that I adore so much…so it was only natural that we collaborate on an edible work of art together! And we also both wanted to pay tribute to our mothers in the piece as well.
Anna and I worked each of our ideas from a Day of the Dead image she found. She created a sugar shoe, and used that image on the inner sole, and I took that image and focused on turning it into a totally edible hand-painted portrait, complete with edible frame and other little details.
