I thoroughly enjoyed meeting the birthday girl Jean who celebrated an amazing 90 years of age. She was a gorgeous little soul – sprightly, funny and as bright as a sunflower! Her daughter ordered the cake and asked for sugar flowers but didn’t specify what type. I designed the cake and then chose Nasturtiums because I wanted a rambling type of wild flower to top the cake. Can you believe they are her favourite flower and I had no idea! I was so happy!! She said she would treasure the flowers and promptly told her daughter no one was going to cut the cake – it was too nice! Bless her <3

The Nasturtium flowers were made with a combination of orchid cutters and hand cutting. I also used a tutorial by Alan Dunn to create my first sugar flower spray. Very proud of my efforts :)
