My piece is based on a digital painting entitled “backyinyang12” by writer, illustrator and graphic designer, Anie Knipping. Anie is autistic and has a condition called Synesthesia — a neurological phenomenon in which stimulation of one sense automatically and involuntarily triggers the brain to experience another sense. For example, the sound of a phone ringing might trigger the taste of chocolate. Or, a synesthesis might associate a number with a particular color. Anie has written a book called “Eccentricity” which provides a window into how she perceives the world.
