This cake was made for very special friends of mine. They wanted a family tree cake, for mum’s 80th birthday and wanted every leaf to be named after a member of their family. I must say I loved every minute of working on the cake. There is a lot of sentiment and meaning in the design. On top of the tree there are two leaves, with autumnal colours, representing my friend’s mum and dad, with their names on them. I also added two doves, as representing the eternal love. The oak tree has four main branches – the children of the family, as on top are the leaves with their names and underneath are the names of their children and grandchildren… The colour of the leaves changes from autumnal green to deep green and spring green colour, according to the age.. .. I airbrushed the cake with summery blue colour and added clouds effect. Most of the clouds are white and fluffy, but there are few darker clouds and few rice paper clouds which are more ragged. This represents family life – mainly with happy and sunny days, but there are also ups and downs or difficult times in all families. I added hand painted trees in the background, they represents the family friends and relatives that surrounds them. Number 80 is made out of nougat with a wood effect, representing the mature age.
