Daughter Melissa’s birthday cake for this year is a bit of a pun on the name. If you have ever seen American Graffiti you have seen Mel’s Diner. We have one that just opened down the street last fall. Since Melissa’s husband has always called her Mel I thought it would be fun to make her a Mel’s Cheeseburger and French Fries. The fries are sugar cookies, with red buttercream for the ketchup. The burger is Cocoa Krispie Marshmallow Treats with fondant cheese, lettuce, onion and tomato. We are meeting at Mel’s Diner tomorrow morning for brunch. Hope she gets a kick from her cake. Her standard favorite of chocolate cake filled with Raspberry mousse.

What a clever idea, the play on the name and meeting at Mel’s! It also happens to be the most realistic burger cake I’ve ever seen! Awesome job, Shirley!

Thank you Sandra. We had a great brunch with Melissa’s family. She loved her cake, said it was her favorite of any I have done for her over the years. She didn’t want to cut it, she is taking it to work tomorrow.

Thank you Anika and Goreti.
